Three Bridges Recruitment is delighted to be partnering with a well-known and values-led not-for-profit organisation in Edinburgh to recruit a Head of Finance. This is a senior leadership role with responsibility for the full finance function within a complex, commercially active charity environment.

This is a rare opportunity for an experienced Accountant to take ownership of finance during a period of change, combining strong technical leadership with people development and commercial insight.

Job

Reporting to the Finance Director, this is a broad and hands-on Head of Finance role, covering financial accounting, management reporting, transactional finance and business support.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Leading and developing an established finance and business support team
  • Driving improvements in finance processes, controls and efficiency
  • Managing full financial and management accounting responsibilities
  • Oversight of purchase ledger, sales ledger, payroll, treasury and cash handling
  • Ownership of monthly reporting, forecasting and budgeting
  • Producing clear, insightful management information for senior stakeholders
  • Supporting commercial operations with robust financial reporting and controls
  • Leading VAT returns, treasury management and balance sheet control
  • Liaising with auditors, banks, trustees and external advisors
  • Supporting delivery of SORP-compliant statutory accounts
  • Playing a visible role within the senior leadership team and wider organisation
  • Developing systems and processes

You

This role will suit a confident and adaptable finance leader who enjoys variety and challenge. You will ideally be / bring:

  • Fully qualified Accountant with strong post-qualification experience
  • A robust technical accounting background
  • Proven experience leading, developing and upskilling teams
  • Experience improving finance processes and reporting in complex environments
  • Strong people management skills with a supportive leadership style
  • Commercial awareness, even within a not-for-profit setting
  • Strong communication skills and a visible, collaborative approach

Experience in the third sector is welcome but not essential; high-quality candidates from the private sector are equally encouraged to apply.
