I’m recruiting for a Payroll & Finance Assistant to join the finance team at a values-driven charity based in Midlothian. You’ll play a crucial role in managing the end-to-end payroll process for a diverse workforce and supporting the wider finance function. Job
As a Payroll & Finance Assistant, you’ll be a key member of a small, friendly finance team. Your priority will be managing the payroll process accurately and efficiently, while supporting core finance operations. You will:
• Manage end-to-end payroll for approx. 250 employees, covering a mix of permanent, zero-hour and supply staff
• Complete payroll calculations, HMRC submissions, pension updates and year-end tasks
• Process payroll deductions, produce payslips and run BACS payments
• Maintain and update SAGE Payroll and rota system data for starters, leavers, amendments, holidays and absences
• Support day-to-day finance processing including ledgers, journals, reconciliations, petty cash and banking
• Use Excel confidently (VLOOKUPs, pivot tables etc.) to support reporting and reconciliations
• Liaise with team leaders and staff to resolve payroll queries in a clear and approachable manner
• Contribute to process improvements and get involved in other finance duties as you grow in the role
You
As Payroll & Finance Assistant, you’ll bring:
• Essential: minimum 2 years’ experience managing end-to-end payroll
• Experience using SAGE Payroll and SAGE Line 50 desirable
• Strong Excel skills including v-lookups and pivot tables
• Rounded finance experience (e.g. accounts assistant duties) preferred
• A friendly, approachable personality with excellent communication skills
• Ability to deal with queries confidently and work well with team leaders and colleagues
